Vasyl Liutyi, also known as Zhyvosyl Liutych, is a Ukrainian bandurist, ethnologist, rock musician, composer, and poet born on July 31, 1973, in Zvenyhorodka, Cherkasy Oblast. He has authored over 300 musical works and is proficient in playing instruments such as the bandura, guitar, piano, accordion, and various traditional Ukrainian wind and percussion instruments. Liutyi graduated from the Kyiv State Higher Music College named after R. M. Glière and the National Pedagogical University named after M. P. Drahomanov. He collaborated with the National Cinematheque of Ukraine, contributing music to the "Unknown Ukraine" project. His song "The Sword of Ares," inspired by Ivan Bilyk's novel, gained popularity through performances by bands like "Haydamaky" and "Tin' Sontsia." Liutyi has also worked with groups such as "Rutenia," "Fata Morgana UA," and "Khorea Kozatska." He actively participated in events like the "Ukraine without Kuchma" campaign, the Orange Revolution, and the Revolution of Dignity, using his music to support the Ukrainian spirit. As a laureate of numerous international and national music festivals, Liutyi continues to influence the Ukrainian music scene.
